The Doom that Came to....(Fill in the Blank)

By: Punisher

"The KEY to life the universe and everything?  No offense Hyuj, but why the hell don't you use it?" Kirk was furious.  His crew, and countless others had been killed.  And Hyuj now had the solution to it all.

"Captain...please calm yourself.  You must understand that although my Box contains the Key to our solution...I do not possess the key to the Box."

   "Who does?"

  "A man."

  "Well...where is he?"

  "On Earth..."

"Then it will be easy to find him..."

  "...of the past."

  "Oh.  Well...who is it?"

"It is not Who.  The Doctor only plays a small role in this.  And he's put in with the TimeGuardians.  I do not know who the man is.  I extracted that information from my mind to prevent the enemy from gaining it."

"So then what do we do?"

"If we're lucky then we just scour the time-stream until we find him..."

"And if we're unlucky?" Kirk didn't want to hear the answer.  "If we're unlucky, we'll be too busy being eaten by the Old Ones and their Minions to worry about it."

Mulder's feet slammed down into the muddy ground as he jumped off the trellis.  Reese pushed Scully down.  She landed in an undignified heap at Mulder's feet.  She was still retching violently and seemed to be drifting in and out of unconciousness.  Reese jumped down...

And was caught in mid-air!  One of the Deep Ones had clambered halfway out the window and snatched him up by the collar.  Mulder fired several shots into it.  So did Reese.  But it didn't seem to affect it.  It pulled Reese back through the window with inhuman speed.  Mulder would hear his screams for years to come.

He knew Reese was dead.  He grabbed Scully and tried to move around to the front of the house.  If he could just make it to the car they might get away.  He heard more noises from the front of the house.  Harsh and guttural...croaking and gargling.  Then the sounds of rending metal and broken glass.  Mulder propped Scully up against the house and cautiously took a peek.

He instantly wished that he hadn't.  He could see more Deep Ones...more than he could quickly count...but less than fifty.  They were hopping and shambling towards the house.  But worse yet...something grey and shiny was smashing the car.  It flopped about pressing its impossibly bulbous mass against the car's frame again and again.  Exerting forces which the car's engineers would not have dreamed possible.  Then ameba-like it simply absorbed what remained of Mulder's car.

Mulder had seen enough.  He back up.  Scully was coming to.

"Mulder, what's happening?"

"We're in deep shit!  Can you run?"

Scully nodded.  Just then, several Deep Ones rounded the corner of the house.  The lead one...wearing the high tiara...croaked as it raised a hoary finger in Mulder's direction.  Mulder let him have it.  The creature fell.  But then was back up on...what in its anatomy...passed for feet.

"Run!!" He pushed Scully ahead as they tore through the field of low bushes and brambles.  Mulder turned to look back at his pursuers...and tripped.  On something sticky....

He looked at it and realized it was the head and torso of a man.  When he looked closer, he recognized the man as one of the members of Delta Green.  He looked like he had been torn apart.  The man moved... Mulder couldn't believe it.  No one in that state could...should still be alive.  He moved closer and he saw the glimmer of recognition in the man's eyes.

"Mulder...." the man gasped.  Ichor, blood, and pus flowing from his many wounds.

"What happened?"  "They...knew...we...were...coming...it was a trap."

The man used his one remaining arm to push his M-16 into Mulder's hands.  "Kill ...  em...for...me..." The man seemed to slump even more.  A horrible gurgling sound came from his chest.  He grasped Mulder's suit, pain and horror etched onto his face.  And as the death rattle sounded in his throat he gave a final look of despair, horror, and surprise...."Dagon," he gasped with his last breath.

Mulder wrenched the man's death grip from his suit.  And looked up...the fish-things were stopped.  They were bashing at the bushes and shrubs trying to flush Mulder and Scully.  Then they stopped and looked up...began prostrating themselves and truly making a cacophony of croaking, gurgling, gargling sounds.  Then Mulder heard Scully scream.  And it suddenly dawned on him that the Delta Green member's enigmatical last word, "Dagon" wasn't meant as a statement...but as a warning.

Fearing the worst, he spun around, reflexively bringing the M-16 to bear on the target he had yet to see.

The first thing Mulder saw ensured him he was right in fearing the worst.  What he was looking at would have driven most other men insane, and many lesser men would have eaten the barrels of their guns at the merest hint of what he was looking at in the moonlight.  Luckily, Mulder had seen weird shit before.  And depending on which way you look at it, Mulder didn't quite go insane...but in the times to come...he found himself wishing he had.

Kirk tried to shake the cobwebs from his head.  He was on Earth.  How had he gotten there?  Old autos?  Earth...late 20th Century he was sure of it.  He needed to get help.  He knew just where to start.

Indiana Jones scanned the source books again.  He was back at Miskatonic and Professor Armitage had been more than helpful.  He put forth the invitation to his colleague.

"I really could use a hand."

"To search out the Many Pillard City of Irem?  It sounds exciting.  But really..."

"Professor...I am not as up on this lore as you are.  I could really use the help.  You know as well as I do the Others won't wait for us to stop them...their plan continues whether we proceed or not."

"True...true...I had hoped to live out my later years in peace and quiet...taking with me to the grave the forbidden secret which I knew...no I'm going off to...off to..."

"Egypt.  The many-tiered tomb of Nephren-Ka.  I think it will hold the best clues."

"Very well.  We leave in the morning?"

"Yeah...I have to think of some stuff to get."

Professor Armitage left the room.  Indy sat back...he was going to need something especially potent to defeat the things which were awakening.  He knew where it was...he just needed to get it.  He fingered the small key that hung on the chain around his neck and started to formulate a plan.
