CAPTAIN'S LOG

BY: Gladiator

Jim Kirk, commander of the Enterprise faced the vidscreen in his quarters.  He could see the large bags under his eyes reflecting off the monitor screen before it came to life.

His away team destined for Regula II never made it.  Stuck in interphase for hours, the transporter chief was finally able to lock onto their signals and bring them back aboard the Enterprise.  Regula II ‘phased out’ of normal space, and was replaced with a massive gravity well, which was growing at an unprecedented rate.  The ship was orbiting the vortex now staying equidistant from its epicenter for analysis.

“Computer,” Kirk commanded the terminal before him.

 “Captain’s Log, supplemental:

The entity we face seems to have an enormous amount of supreme power.  It is able to project its thoughts into our dreams.  A being of this sort, able to amplify its thoughts over great distances, through far, far off galaxies, even time itself is utterly alien, and it terrifies me to my very soul.

The abomination we faced on the Lost World of our dreams seems so real, even now.  In the back of my conscious I can't help but visualize the unwarranted effects it had over my mind.  Mind control.  Yes, mind control and lucid dreaming seem to be the prevailing theme here.  The magnitude with which this Cthulian spawn has perverted all of our thoughts is mind boggling in itself.  Many of the crew, including myself have succumbed to the madness at times.  Dr. McCoy is administering Thoradrine injections to help us keep control over our sanity.  I only hope we can find a way to find stop this madness before it destroys us all.

The wave of blackness that has stricken the Federation like some giant cosmic tsunami is another matter entirely.  The damage caused by this unstoppable force as it scourges space itself cannot even be put into words.  It is obliterating everything in its path, and within days it will engulf all of the Federation's worlds.

There is the plausibility, that the two adversities are somehow connected.  Perhaps so interwoven that our diminutive minds can not even comprehend their significance.  It may be impossible to fathom communication with these beings or whatever dimensional force They may be.  Finding the common reference betwixt the two I'm sure will no doubt lead to darker horrors not even conceived of yet.

At this point in time I have no answers and no solutions to the prevailing crisis.

I do however, have a hunch.

 My theory is this.

If I knew the outcome of our current peril, I may have a better knowledge of what action in which to take.  I am therefore going to attempt to send the Enterprise forward in time.

The fates of our future will provocate the demise of the alien force, or the annihilation of the known universe.

By going into timewarp around a sun, we can jump the ship ahead into the future.  Influencing the timestream is a matter of massive consequence.  Therefore, we shall make our destination for the one man who has the persona and resources with which to deal with our current circumstances.  Juan Luke Picard, and the Enterprise D.

“Computer, end log.” Kirk thumbed the viewer off and punched the commpanel on.

 “Kirk to Bridge”

 “Spock here, Captain.”

“Mr. Spock, set a course for the nearest star, I’m on my way up.”

“And start computations… for time travel.”
