The
game concept was simple.
Capture
the Flag.
The
combat arena on Solaris was massive, and contained many obstacles.
There was wooded areas, small lakes and ponds, barren plateaus devoid of
shelter or place of refuge, swamps, rocky terrain and even mountains. In
the middle of the playing field was a mock city, and inside the city somewhere
was hidden a huge flag--- almost a banner it was so large, and any mech spotted
carrying it would become an instant target.
The
flag of course made out of a special alloy impervious to normal weapons fire.
To
win, only a few rules applied.
Acquire
the flag and proceed through enemy controlled territory towards their base.
Control of the opponent’s stronghold did not have to be obtained, but
the flag would have to reach the designated area.
Upon that condition, or the destruction or incapacitation of all one
sides team members, the match would end and the winner declared victorious.
Edwards
and Wallart combined their years of combat to comprise a winning strategy.
Their basic plan was for the Archer and Catapult to stay in a rear
flanking formation, and back up the front line units with their overwhelming
missile salvos. The assault company
was to be comprised of the Atlas, Battlemaster, and Annihilator with the Phoenix
Hawk running point.
Jason
Storm in the Ostscout would of course be handing reconnaissance duties, but
initially his mission would be vital to the success of the overall strategy.
There
side had to obtain the Flag first.
The
Oscout would surge ahead of the group, obtain the flag, and immediately fall
back to the larger battlemechs. A
handoff of the flag would be made to the Atlas, and the entire group would then
proceed to the opponent's starting station.
The
unknown variable was the assortment of battlemechs the enemy had chosen for
their side. Only time would give
way to that answer. And that time
was now.
The game announcer’s voice broke through the thunderous overtones of the Solaris theme song... All the players apprehensions were high and the music got their blood rolling in untamed fashion.

Game 1
Instruments of Destruction

Metal Militia
Victor
was breathing heavy, as were the other members of IOD.
He had his jittery finger already on the jump jet trigger, and when the
signal was given he would make for the mountaintop to the east.
From there he would monitor the Oscout's progress, and get an overview of
the enemy’s forces from above the tree line.
The
countdown for the game start had begun as numbers flashed on the vidscreen
amidst the computer's blurbs.
Commander
Edwards opened the comm channel for one final word before the games began...
“I
only have one rule-- everyone fights, no one quits. If you don't do your job, I'll shoot you myself.
Do you get me?”
“We
get you Sir!!!”
"It's
game time..."
Duut,
Duut,
Duut,
Duut,
Deeeeee
"BEGIN
COMPETITION"
The
mighty war machines ventured forth into the unknown territory whilst excited
spectators cheered for their favorite team.

It wasn't long before the hostilities broke out...
