The Kurita scout mechs advanced upon the entrenched and extra-armored Davion armor factory. Edwards knew the main attack would be coming soon...within an hour. These small mechs were probing the defenses, using specially implanted cameras and recording equipment to map out his entire defense net. The scouts scurried up to the outer limit of the defenses and ducked behind some cover. It was another minute later when one of the Kurita Locusts flared and exploded. Another followed it. His little "surprise" had worked...his hidden mechs had emerged behind the scouts and were slaughtering them. The lightly armored mechs were no match for the multiple Warhammers that came from behind. It was over in under a minute.
"Did they get the call out?" Edwards asked the communications officer. "No. It happened too fast."
Excellent. Now he would see how far his poker luck extended into real life. He vaulted the railing and sprinted into the hanger bay. His Battlemaster was ready, along with 2 Warhammers, and 3 Archers. He took the steps 2 at a time as he ran up the platform and into the cockpit. The Battlemaster rumbled to life & he moved immediately. The small group of 6 took off at a run, & moved around to the right of the factory. Then they proceeded toward the Kurita staging area. His Locusts had found a hole in the Draconis defenses, at the cost of 6 lives. He would avenge those men a hundred times over right now. They came upon the enemy from the right, and it was better than Edwards had dared to dream. The hastily constructed field base was almost totally open air, and dozens of mechs were 'docked' at field rearming platforms receiving full ammo packs and quick repairs. The Davion mechs totally surprised them. The Archers let go first, and the 6 LRM-20's found separate mechs. The Kurita mechs were hooked into the platforms and their armor was open as they received missile packs. The Davion missiles swarmed through the dark sky and erupted ammo packs all along the rearming line

A dozen mechs exploded from the inside before the Kuritas knew what was happening. The Federation mechs ran along the line and blasted away. They would only have a few minutes before the operational mechs were upon them. Edwards was slagging his 9th mech, a Griffin, when he saw the Warhammer on his right go down in a volley of fire from up ahead. Time to get out...but it had worked. Back at base they assessed the damage. 3 of the 6 were gone, but they had destroyed over 30 enemy mechs.
