RETREAT

BY: Deathstrike

The battle waged on. With the Marauder, the Shadow Hawk, and the Locust down and inoperable, the battle began to go sour quickly. Wallart still had his headset on, and he shouted the order he hated most. "Begin retreat!!" he yelled into the commnet. The remaining Mechs backed away from the battle slowly in a fighting retreat. As they reached the high ground to the left of the battlefield, the 2 lances took up positions among the rocks and cliffs. Within a few minutes, it became clear to the invaders that they wouldn't be able to take out the dug-in defenders, and the Kurita Mechs moved on to find easier prey.

The Davion Mechs clambered out from their hiding places and surveyed the damage. Aside from the Marauder and the Shadow Hawk, both of which had been completely destroyed, they had suffered minimal casualties. The Locust was still operable, but it would need engine repairs to be fully functional again. And was the payment worth it? There, next to the brutalized Shadow Hawk stood the inert Atlas, its head smashed beyond recognition and its pilot most surely dead. There was also a Hunchback that had caught a few LRM-20's too many. Its center and left torso were blown away, and the only thing holding the Mech upright was the shredded internal armor. They had been very lucky indeed today. "Jason, do you think we could repair that thing...use it to OUR advantage?" Wallart asked and gestured at the towering Atlas. "Depends on how much internal damage there is." Storm replied. "It doesn't look too bad though...yea, I'd say there's a good chance its repairable." "Great. Well we better get moving if we want to reach the outpost by dark." It took 4 Mechs to carry the Atlas, and it was a long trip. They arrived at the defense outpost to find it under attack by a medium lance. Since the attackers had already been damaged by the Davion defenders, the 2 lances had little trouble crushing the Kurita scum. They entered the main building and headed for their rooms for some sleep.

Except Wallart. He strode into the tactical HQ to find out the planetary situation. "Its not good", answered Zac Star, chief technician. "We have them stopped on most of the fronts, but that wont last long. We have barely a regiment garrisoned here, and they landed 3! We are dug in, of course, and should inflict heavy damage, but I only hope its enough to hold them until reinforcements arrive. Hanse Davion himself is coming along with 2 more regiments. But if we don't hold them..."
