The Federated Suns' units were up early the next day, despite the fact the alcohol
from
the previous nights celebration gave most of them a throbbing headache. By the time Jason
Storm had showered and dressed, there was a swarm of people working on the crater-pocked
battlefield surrounding the factory. He took in the full scene from an upper level window.
It was horrible...worse than he'd dreamt it could be. There were more than 20 shredded
mechs littering the ground on this side of the fortress alone. He saw a Locust much like
his own and cringed at it. The armor on its right arm, torso, and leg was melted away,
revealing the poly-acetylene fiber "muscles" beneath. In some places, the
titanium skeleton was visible through holes in the shredded myomers. Next to the Locust, a
Hunchback was flopped over on its back, its entire torso gone. The armor was shredded and
blown outward, a sure sign that the ammo for the deadly auto-cannon it brandished had
blown. He began his slow descent downstairs to see what he could do to help.
"The Dracs will be back...theres no doubt about that." he thought to himself. "We're practically the only Davion force that has won a battle so far. It won't be long before they regroup and attack again. I hope Hanse gets here soon..."
As those thoughts went through Jason Storm's mind, similar ones were going through Hasegawa's mind as well. "Defeated by these Davion fools...its unforgivable." he thought as he inspected the mechs that ha d made it back in one piece. They had ravaged more than 75% of his forces...not to mention the hundreds of infantry who had been totally slaughtered. Not a single footsoldier had been found alive. Over a thousand men butchered for nothing... At least he knew that the Suns' victory would soon be over. Even now, a full regiment of Kurita mechs was making their way here after crushing the Davion defenders at the city of New Theradrine. News of Hasegawa's defeat had already spread throughout the planet. If he didn't regain his honor this time, he knew he would be executed. He drove the thought from his mind. Its not that he feared death, but that he KNEW he would win this time. His analysts guessed that they had brutalized the Davion defenders at the factory. With a fresh regiment coming, the enemy fools had no hope. Hasegawa actually entertained the thought that they might retreat...just board a dropship and leave. He hoped they wouldn't.
