The remaining Wasp and the Ostscout from the Kurita recon lance ran at flank speed
through the rocky canyon with no regard for the loose footing. They were doomed anyway,
and they knew it, but they ran anyway as the pilots fear destroyed all reason and replaced
it with animal instinct. The Ostscout snagged a loose boulder and stumbled forward blindly.
It Veered sideways into the canyon wall and smashed into an outcrop of granite. As it
stumbled backwards again, 6 large lasers impacted its rear armor. The forward armor
blossomed like a fiery flower of devastation and the upper half of the mech was blown off
of the still-moving legs. The Wasp didn't break stride as the mech was bombarded by
particles of the mutilated Ostscout. It looked up and saw a 40 meter cliff to the right.
The pilot slammed the jump button on his console and his mech rocketed skyward. It soared
20 meters to the right and landed on the edge of the cliff. The Wasp turned to take a look
back at his pursuers.
The Atlas and the Thunderbolt were emerging through the smoke caused by his comrade's burning mech, and the Archer and Phoenix Hawk were right behind them. "Let them come," thought the Kurita pilot. "I made it! I'm safe! They can't get me up here!" He smiled, but the smile turned to a frown as he heard a resounding THUD behind him and his proximity alert alarms began screaming into his helmet. He turned just as the Davion Griffin straightened himself from his jump and unleashed its PPC. The barrel of the particle cannon was almost touching the Kurita scout, and the impact of the weapon blew the Wasp backward over the cliff. It plummeted to the floor of the canyon with a gaping, smoldering hole in his right torso. The mech landed with the force of a small meteor, but through some great stroke of luck, he didn't die. Warning lights came on all around him, and he instantly shut down his engine to avoid burning up. The pilot exhaled loudly and closed his eyes. A rumble caused his eyes to flash open again. He saw the Atlas stomping toward him, and knew that a fiery death would have been a blessing. The huge assault mech lumbered slowly up to the tiny Wasp and stood over it. With its engine shut down, the Kurita couldn't even shoot a machine gun. The Atlas lifted the mech and began to pummel it with its bare fists. The Wasp pilot screamed in agony as his body was semi-crushed by metal. All his limbs broke instantly, but he didn't die. The agony went on until death finally came 22 minutes l8r.
