CLASH OF THE TITANS

BY: Gladiator

Veritechs flew in formation like a flock of geese, with the Prowler recon ship to their rear.  The group of robotech mecha defolded into space near planet Twycross.

Filling the ENTIRE viewport, Max Sterling and the other pilots looked upon the humongous Imperial Star Destroyer.  Without even time for pleasantries, TIE interceptors were vectoring in on their position, and the conflict began...

Twin lasers shot out from the “I” shaped craft and Skull squadron broke formation to return fire.

“Skull 3 and 4, break left and flank around them.  Nina, are you picking

up any more signs of that transmission?” Max called out over the comm-link.

“Acknowledged!” and “Negative Sir!” came the replies respectively.

The shields surrounding the Veritechs were more than adequate to handle the inferior weapons technology of the Imperial Tie fighters....  The Star Destroyers were another story.

Grand Admiral Thrawn must have seen the inadequacies of his fighters and soon began deployment of a dozen Star Destroyers around the Vindicator.  Their ion cannons quickly made a number of Skull Veritechs inoperable.

“This is Commander Max Sterling of the Robotech Defense Force to unidentified vessel.  We are responding to a distress call... call off your attack, we are on a mission of peace.”

“Nina to Skull squadron,” the gash officer interrupted the noisy comm channels.  “We have located the communications array aboard that oversized warship...I’m feeding its coordinates through now....”

“Skull 9 and 10 take em down!” Max ordered, “Transform to Battloid mode and try and pound some sense into them.”  Into the hull, he meant literally of course.

By the time Skulls 9 and 10 were transformed, an almost limitless number of Imperial fighters were swarming like insects making visibility worse  than the snow conditions during a Blizzard.  Guided missiles began to flurry away from the Veritechs.  Neutron X and Y missiles burst forth from pods mounted in the chest, arms, hips, and legs.  Veritechs were armored to the teeth, and bolstered heavy firepower to go with it, but it did nothing in the sea of madness surrounding them.

They call it Space...  because there is a lot of it...  but as each Star Destroyer continued to launch its boundless supply of fighters, Space took on a whole new meaning.

 It began to fill up.

Fighters, Star Destroyers, and other support ships seemed to be everywhere as they revolved around the Vindicator like bees about a hive.  Grand Admiral Thrawn would show no mercy to these new Invaders...and he was not going to bother the Emperor again...

Then the big guns aboard the larger Imperial craft began to open fire.... As well as the 1000 turrets aboard the Vindicator...  taking out some of even their own fighters.  The RDF was in the shitter.

“Skull One to Nina!” Max yelled into the noise of the comm-link.  “Punch a comsignal to Admiral Hunter, Priority gamma gamma zeta alpha charlie tango 1!”

“But Sir!” the gash sounded like 3P0. “The ultra high frequency electromagnetic pulse will overload all our power systems....  We’ll be dead in space,” now sounding like Scotty.

The code would use all of the available protoculture and burn out the reflex drives aboard the recon vessel, but the increased power would hopefully generate enough overtures for the message signature to reach Admiral Hunter.

“Do it... while we still have time,” Max unknowingly quoted Kirk...  “And Nina, open your cargo bay doors and adapt the Destroids with magnetic couplers.”

“Staley, you and Jack are now assigned to the defense of the Nina.”

As the Prowler recon vessel prepared to send out the call for help, Destroids began crawling about her hull like ants over an anthill.  Barrel armed Spartans, GLADIATORs, Excaliburs, Raider X, and even MAC II class Destroids began unleashing copious amounts of firepower into the myriad of Imperial attack craft.  Missiles, particle beams, and gigantic gun clusters fired volley after volley into the Imperials, and it did nothing to dwindle their numbers.

Max saw a Veritech avoid heavy fire from a turbo laser as it rolled to the right.  Instantly another battery opened up aboard the star destroyer and all but annihilated the RDF craft.  The move looked almost anticipated.  Max keyed up his comm-link, “watch that cross fire boys!”

Tie squadrons swarmed around the Veritechs like a diver swimming amidst an abundant school of fish, obscuring the pilot’s vision of the Space Above and Beyond.   The outlook was grim for the survival of the RDF, and the situation continued only to get worse.

Like a dark angel the steel winged Vindicator’s immense mass created a path of devastation as it blasted away at the robotech ships.

Just when it seemed like certain doom for Max Sterling and all the Veritechs of Skull squadron, a massive shadow overlaid the all but invisible graced glitter of the star lit background of space.

The Super Dimensional Fortress arrived out of hyperspace and defolded with a valance of Veritechs surrounding it.  Space/Time shimmered around its hulking mass as it coalesced directly into the flight path of the Vindicator.

The two titan war craft faced off as their massive gun batteries began to tear into each other.  Rail Cannons, high powered guns and guided missiles, bellowed out from the SDF-3 like some metal monster breathing smoke and fire.

300 Veritechs raced into battle with the Imperial Ties, commencing rapid barrage of ‘reflex’ missiles.  Turbo lasers, pulse cannons, and all other gun batteries aboard the Vindicator turned their crosshairs on the SDF-3.   With all guns blazing, the Vindicator drove its vast size through a frenzy of smaller attack ships.  Beams of light lanced out from the two cruisers creating an awesome light spectacle.  The two Space Giants blasted away at each other through a spectrum of many colours.  The awesome laser show emanating from the two monstrous ships might have been mistaken for a celebration if not for the mounting debris of mangled attack craft and mutilated bodies now littering the space between.

The battle raged on...growing...and growing with intensity...
