BE QUICK OR BE DEAD

BY: Gladiator

As Jason neared the ground level he noticed a chunk of blown away armor resting on the bottom step.  The shard held the emblem of one of the Combines most renowned mech units.  It had been charred a dark tint, but could clearly still be seen.  Jason upholstered his side arm and blew the piece to bits; it be dammed.

As he rounded a corner he caught sight of a mech tow vehicle leaving for the field.  Jason flagged down the driver and hitched a ride in the cab.  "Thanks Mack, looks like you've got a busy day ahead of you."  "Yeah...  sure does.  It's going to be weeks before most of these mechs are fit for duty again.  I just hope we have the time to get them battle ready before another one of the Dragon's attacks."  Jason leaned back into the seat, stared straight ahead and said, "I know what you're saying, I just have this gut feeling though that that's not going to happen..."

In a few minutes, the recovery vehicle neared two inert mechs.  They looked locked together in a type of death dance.  Jason got out to inspect the two more closely.  Both were holed through by from the looks of it, a single Auto Cannon 20 Blast.  Jason was still staring up at the two carved out chest cavities as his Lance commander approached him.  "Nice piece of handy work if I do say so myself," Wallart chuckled.  "Wallart!  You 'ol wardog!  I get the picture you did this with the Atlas."  "Yeah... threw that smaller mech into the larger one, and put a round through the likes of both of em."  "Good shooting man, but it's too bad you didn't take out their legs instead, we coulda used the engine and gyro parts.  Now they're scattered across the field here."  Jason kicked a massive mounting bolt of some kind with his boot.

 It didn't move.

"Ahh...Sonofa..." he hopped on his other leg.  "Haa Haa Haah,” Wallart let out a low laugh.  Quit your bitchin kid, you know how it is out here."  "I know, I was just giving you a hard time," Jason socked his senior in the arm.  Wallart countered, and put him in an arm bar, then let him go.  They continued to walk around the mechs looking at the wreckage polluting the field.  "There is an officers meeting tonight, we'll be viewing some new satellite photos.  We're gonna get a bird's eye view of what the Dragon's got in store for us next."  I'll let you know what I find out.
