SOMEWHERE IN TIME

BY: GLADIATOR

Chaos erupted in the Greys command center.  The global space barrage was pulverizing their homeworld.  The main shield was down, and they could no longer hold out.  (See Message #165).

42 levels beneath the surface three LabGreysä watched their vidscreens with growing concern.  The mental picture being projected between the Greys were clear - Escape, and return another day, another time!  Quickly they entered underground hanger # eighteen and boarded their flying saucer, taking with them several key viles of some unknown substance and a mysterious box.  The ship was a very unique stealth craft geared toward monitoring space/time experiments.  They powered the vessel up and activated the Timeporter.  All around them, experimental creatures were freed from their cages as the planet's outer crust was being drivin asunder from the ensuing battle above.  Entire laboratories caved in, leaving many ongoing experiments to falter.  Through the open Timeporter the saucer flew--and into--the past.  The NavGrey plotted a hasty course in time.  The only thing on their mind was to quickly evade this time-cone's extinctive conclusion.

"Unbeknownst to all the peace-loving and warmongering peoples of the universe, something had gone horribly wrong in the time stream."

Mortax had been overrun in the future, but these Greys had endured.  The last contact they had with their fellow Greys had been one simple instruction.  Rod Kirk: the one human who held the key to their species survival.  The NavGrey monitored his vidscreen intently.  The Timeportal had functioned perfectly.  They were in the past, on Earth.  Quickly, they began their Decent upon the infamous Captain's position.  As the saucer hovered near the ground, vidscreens clearly showed the ruckus taking place on the surface.  (Refer to message #6 and 7 of SB1).  The saucer blotted out the sun and the planet dwellers looked on in horror as everyone's mind tried to make sense of their presence.  The Grey's mental projections were interluded however as Avalon the Time Guardian arrived in a glowing sphere.  Time was stopped.  A beam of energy lanced out and engulfed the saucer.  It was caught up in some sort of temporal flux reaction.  Another beam encircled the saucer.  It was literally being pulled apart at its seams as the two conflicting timestreams sought to right themselves.

As the NavGrey could no longer control his space/time craft he waived his arms in a frenzy finally coding up the escape pod sequence from the computer.  The saucer itself negated from existence as the escape pod was launched further into the past - circa 1947, Roswell, New Mexico.  The pod's plunge to the ground was reduced in speed by a large metallic chute.  As the pod landed it cracked open and all three Greys were ejected.  The craft was pulled several hundred meters by the chute in the wind until it finally lay still and torn apart.

An old farmer riding along in his rickety pickup truck spotted the wreckage and intrigued by what he saw went to investigate.  At first he saw the chute and a lot of debris.  Thinking immediately it must be a weather balloon from the nearby military base, the man went back home and called the headquarters.  Within 8 minutes his property was crawling with military personnel and Men in Black suits.  Strewn about the countryside lying immobile and injured, the three Greys were unable to defend themselves and were quickly located.  One was mortally injured, its gaunt leg and torso laid wide-open, and it looked up innocently at the soldier who first found it with huge black oval eyes.  The soldier stood awestruck for a moment until a few men took him away and loaded the Grey up in a covered jeep.  The two slightly injured Greys were locked up immediately for questioning, and ironically the maimed Grey abducted for a live dissection.

The military began work trying to reconstruct the wreckage.  Back at the base the pod's computers were reassembled, crudely at best, and twelve scientists muddled together as the vidscreen Timelogsä came to life.  (See Story Base, Episode V: The Undiscovered Messages)
