JOURNEY TO THE UNDERWORLD

BY: GLADIATOR

“Keptin!!” Chekov cried out.  “Regula Two is no longer on our sensors!!”

Captain Kirk, eyes never leaving the station STILL on the vidscreen swiveled his char, “Spock?”

The ambassador was slightly hunched over his viewfinder and feverishly working on his control panel.  “Chekov is correct Captain.  Ship's sensors show nothing in the space in front of us.  However, we see the Regula station on the monitor, and it is physically there.”

“Spock,” the Captain held his hands up, “this aberration in space...  Could it also affect time?”

“Very possible.  Without further analysis from the station's chronologs, it would be impossible to be sure.  I believe what we are seeing is the Regula Station caught between interphase -- phasing in and out of time and space.  Quite possibly between different multi-verses, even different dimensions.

“This sounds like the Defiant all over again.“ Kirk seemed to vault from his command seat.  “Bridge to Sickbay, Dr. McCoy meet us transporter room 3.  Chekov, Mr. Spock, you’re with me.”

McCoy entered the transporter room with the rest of the landing party, raging wildly.  “You’re not actually going down there are you Jim?”  “We nearly lost you on the Defiant.  There’s no telling what’s going to happen!!”

“Got a better idea Bones, now’s the time!” Kirk countered.

The fearless Captain stepped onto the platform.  “Prepare to Energize.................."

  Far across universe...

The gulf of blackness, which was the entity, expanded its realm of desolation without conscious.  Like an incurable plague, uncountable worlds began to fall.  To the entity, their destruction meant nothing more than the swat of gnats as it infused more and more systems.  Its mass increased beyond comprehension, as it sought to facilitate the merging of supreme powers with their new dominion.

“What do you make of that Paris?” Captain Janeway stood behind the helm console with one hand on her hip.  The entire bridge crew watched with uncertainty as the amorphous leviathan of darkness continued to blanket its way through the Delta quadrant.

“Unknown Captain,” Paris never looked up from his console.  His fingers danced over the helm station as schematics ran across smaller terminals in front of him.

“How could this.... this...  Shadow come upon us so quickly?” Janeway said aloud hoping someone would have an answer.  “Can we outrun it?” Janeway looked to Tuvok at his science station.

“Negative.  By my calculations the cloud we be upon us in less than 42 seconds.”

“We need some options everyone!!” Janeway commanded.

It was Harry Kim who yelled out.  “We have an anomaly Captain, at grid 42 x 8 x 64.  The Shadow seems to be deterred from that region of space...  possibly a worm hole, or other form of rift."

“Any other options???.........Janeway looked about the Bridge.  “Tom make way for that sector.  Maximum Warp.”

“Aye, Aye, Captain...” Lt. Tom Paris keyed the navigation sequence into the computer.

The ship was in for its greatest Voyage yet...
