Rick
leaned over to look at Lisa.
She
was sleeping soundly. How pretty
she was. Admiral Hunter had been
unable to sleep. He laid awake for
hours now. Ever since he lost
contact with the squadron of Veritechs
sent out to investigate the strange distress call...
(..............Lisa
looked into Rick's eyes as she lay with her head on his lap.
They were on a faraway planet (even farther than the one mentioned
several messages ago), and all was peaceful.
The night was still, and she gazed to the heavens as Rick stroked her
soft hair. The luster of the stars
was never ending as the hundreds of them visible to the naked eye shined down.
One could not help but wonder how many billions upon billions their were
gleaming in between the visible specs, hidden from sight.
Their illustrious glow illuminated the quiet countryside.
Everything was so perfect.
"Oh
Rick isn't it beautiful?"
"It's
a dream come true."
Lisa's
attention was drawn to a meteor now streaking across the sky.
“Oh
Look at that Rick, let's make a wish!" she exclaimed.
The
blazing rock made its way across the stratosphere and down across the horizon.
"I
don't think that was a meteor," Rick commented as he stood up.
Both of their insides began to churn as they witnessed the black wave
following in the meteors trail.
One by one all of the stars began to 'wink' out. The wave moved swiftly, consuming each sun's brilliance like an omnipresent shadow. No light escaped, and soon the entire night sky was filled with darkness. The Thing That Should Not Be, increased in size by a factor of 8 every second. The nightmarish realm of evil encompassed everything in its path. A writhing mass of pure mindless entropy--an unstoppable force by any measure of space or time.
