Day 15 Shire Reckoning: Sunday, Foreyule 19. We headed out this morning for a quick last minute Breakfast with folks from the tour. This is really actually beginning to sink in that this is coming to an end. After breakfast we head out to Queenstown for some last minute shopping and then catch a Super Shuttle to the Airport with Laura, Vicky, and LilAnne to fly back to Auckland and the "real world". Harrumph. Find out on the plane that Laura is a Scorpio too.... not only that....but she has the same exact birthday as me. Weird! That's never happened to either one of us before. 1 more cool thing to add to the trip. Bad news is that I feel like I might be coming down with something. When we get to Auckland, Laura and LilAnne break off from us and Vicky, Penny and I head to our hotel. After checking in we go on a quest to look for Cold meds. Can't find any....argh! I did find a couple of internet cafe's though, which is good because the TORN Oscar Party tickets go on sale tomorrow at 9:00 Kiwi time. Head back to the room and I'm sure I have a fever....room is so hot I'm gonna die. Have a miserable night's sleep, well it would have been if I slept which I didn't... The Return Thursday, 11 December Rush out to the internet cafe to buy the TORN party tickets...it is 8:30 and plenty of time to make it to the internet cafes. Halfway there, I realize I forgot Vicki and Maria's information! They are gonna kill me. Rush back to grab my Palm PC and the info then head back. We get back to the internet cafe at about 8:55. I log into my Paypal account just to make sure I remember the password. I keep checking the link on TORN. At around 9:01 the link goes hot! I enter the info fast as possible and hit "buy". Server ERROR!! NOOOOO!! I do it again! More Server Error! What is happening. About 4 tries later I actually get a hint that it might have worked. I check my Paypal history and yea verily the transaction is in my history! Huzzah! I try to doublecheck but now the Paypal server is down. What? I found out later that Ringers crashed Paypal....and that the party sold out within 15 minutes...wow. Next we meet up with Vicky and catch a Super Shuttle to the Auckland airport. The van is really really hot...and I'm feeling progressively more ill. Get to the airport where we run into Jeff and he tells us his woes about the TORN tickets...he was not able to get any since the server crashed before he could finish his transaction. That stinks. Get on the flight back and Air New Zealand is showing a featurette about Lord of the Rings and New Zealand. I can see all the places we visited. It already isn't seeming real anymore. Ironically, Led Zeppelin's "Ramble On" starts playing in my headset. I can't think of a more appropriate tune right now. Before I know it we're changing planes in LAX, then back to Colorador...then a cab home....then I unload all the luggage into the living room, where some of it is sitting still...and I go to suck down some NyQuil and crash in my bed. One thought goes through my head as I start to drift off into the peaceful bliss of the Vicks' induced delirium..."Well....I'm back." |
