Day 10

Shire Reckoning: Trewsday, Foreyule 14 -- Fangorn Forest, Silverlode, River Anduin western shore.

A real Cromwell sunrise.  Wow!

Departed from Cromwell and headed quickly for the edge of Fangorn forest, where the Uruk-Hai dead mound is placed by the Rohirrim.

Site was easily recognizable and much fun was had by all. On the exact same site from a slightly different camera angle we get the setting of the site where Gandalf calls Shadowfax to him. Very beautiful site all around.

Next hit a gorgeous site of the Silverlode running into the Anduin very pretty and also recognizable. Did a funny shot of folks running over a log Uruk Hai style (video coming soon...)

Left from there to go to the site of the "Breaking of the Fellowship" scene at the bottom of Amon Hen. The river shore where Sam chases Frodo into the water is clearly recognizable as is the tree where Merry and Pippin hide from the Uruks and beckon Frodo to join them.

Folks had fun re-enacting that scene. One crazy guy named Michael actually stripped off his clothes and went running into the lake like Sam! I'm sure the water was very cold but I think he was from Denmark I think and must have some Viking blood.

After that checked into Te Anau, I'm exhausted and all I want to do is sleep but that seems impossible right now. Everyone's wanting to do all these afternoon activities....whatever happened to relaxing on vacation? I guess I differ from folks on this. I need to sleep. Went out to eat with Liz and had nice long convo about film and Space: Above and Beyond!  Turns out she's a huge fan. Then came back to the hotel for a soak in the tub but fell asleep and dropped my A Wizard of Earthsea book into the water... Great.

Now the hotel is piping in the TTT through the TV. I need to sleep.

Tomorrow we head to Milford Sound....hope it doesn't rain.  Though I've heard it is almost more spectacular if it rains.  Looking forward to this, Milford Sound is supposed to wow New Zealanders...so it must be impressive indeed.
