Background Penny, my new bride, and I couldn't think of a better honeymoon than to actually head to 'Middle-earth' surrounded by fellow Ringers. Our wedding, though not themed, did have some over-riding LOTR influences. The music at the reception was oboe and hammered dulcimer, the rings inscribed in Elvish, Penny wore the Evenstar pendant designed for the films, and the cake was shaped like Minas Tirith. The idea of heading off for two weeks in New Zealand seemed a bit far fetched. But when coupled with our honeymoon it made it seem less extravagant. I've been an avid fan of J.R.R. Tolkien's works since the fifth grade when I first read The Hobbit. Penny has more recently joined the fellowship of fandom with the advent of the films. We didn't want to let this opportunity pass us by! We saved our money and went on a fantastic adventure. |
